Rethinking Concepts of Health and Disease

Abstract:

Debates about the concepts of health and disease have become central to the philosophy of medicine, given their far-reaching implications for research, practice, and policy. To move these debates forward, scholars are increasingly turning to empirical methods, including those from experimental philosophy. Drawing on several recent studies, this talk presents a new approach to understanding the nature and function of these concepts and explores their implications for theory, clinical communication, and public health.
