Conference Welcome
Welcome to the third Cultural Evolution Society Conference, CES2021. In the conference, which was held from June 9-11, 2021, about 180 researchers from East Asia, Oceania, Middle East, Europe, North and South America gave presentations on their latest research advancing the evolutionary understanding of human and nonhuman animal culture. In total, approx. Three hundred people registered to attend the CES2021.
In this and future meetings, we are committed to an inclusive, pluralistic perspective. We hope you will join us in creating and experiencing the excitement of the field of cultural evolution.

Format of the CES2021
CES2021 was a virtual online conference hosted on Underline.
- A 12-minute video and presentation slides of all the individual presenters were available on the virtual conference site from June 4. The site remains open for 60 days after the conference.
- During the conference, live plenary talks by the five leading researchers took place.
- All the presenters were assigned to either Q&A sessions or Discussion sessions. The audience and presenters could have live interactions during the conference.
- All the presenters had an individual page with a text-based chat system where participants could interact with the presenters whenever they wanted.
